Mudd/MLK Week Lecturer: Claudia Rankine

2014 National Book Critics Circle Award-winner Claudia Rankine will give a lecture in the Mudd Center's series on "The Ethics of Citizenship."

The Aerol Arnold Chair of English at the University of Southern California, Rankine will lecture at 4:30 p.m. in Stackhouse Theater, Elrod Commons. The event is free and open to the public.

Rankine is known for her boundary-pushing poetry that deals with racial aggression in 21st-century daily life.

Her book “Citizen: An American Lyric” (2014) received the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for poetry, an NAACP Image Award for literature, was included on the New York Times best seller list and was on the New York Times’ Sunday Book Reviews 100 Notable Books of 2015. Rankine also received the PEN Oakland Award for “Citizen” in the fall 2015.
