Winter Choral Concert Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy

March 22, 2016

8:00 PM

Concert Hall, Wilson Hall

Susan Wager

Join the Men’s Glee Club and Cantatrici for a delightful evening of choral music, followed by the combined choirs of the W&L choral program, members of the University Orchestra and pianist Jonathan Cook performing Ludwig van Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Opus 80. The Choral Fantasy, composed in 1808, is Beethoven’s project of adding solo and choral voices to what is basically a piano concerto, much like he would do in later years with the chorale Finale to the Ninth Symphony, the famous Ode to Joy. Cook will delight Lexington audiences with the flourish of Beethoven’s piano composition at its finest following the Glee Club and Cantatrici’s performance of great works from the choral canon during the first half of the program.
