Public Lecture: Lessons from Latin America for the Environmental Movement / Tuesday, March 12, 5:00pm, Northen Auditorium
(Sponsored by the Environmental Studies Program and the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program)

Rural communities across Latin America have long opposed extractive industries that threaten their natural resources and way of life. This history can offer useful insights to the global environmental movement and may present a model for understanding extractive issues such as fracking in rural portions of the United States. Timothy Shenk will share from his experience opposing mining projects in the Dominican Republic as part of the organization "Justicia Global". He will explore case studies from around the region.
