Berman, a cultural historian, social critic, and public intellectual, has written widely about the history of consciousness, civilization, and contemporary American culture. He has a BA in mathematics from Cornell and a Ph.D. in the history of science from Johns Hopkins. He has held a number of academic appointments at major universities, and currently lives in Mexico (see his blog at for more details).

Tune in for a straight-talking interview that will prepare you for his public lecture and book signing in Northen Auditorium by Morris Berman on Tuesday at 5 p.m. His events are sponsored by the Philosophy Department and the Class of '63 Scholars-in-Residence Fund.
