Berman, a cultural historian, social critic, and public intellectual, has written widely about the history of consciousness, civilization, and contemporary American culture. He has a BA in mathematics from Cornell and a Ph.D. in the history of science from Johns Hopkins. He has held a number of academic appointments at major universities, and currently lives in Mexico (see his blog at http://morrisberman.blogspot.com/ for more details).
